A Reflection of 27

As you read this, I will be officially 28 years old. i thought I would reflect on the 27th trip around the sun. Firstly, I never thought I’d see 18 let alone 27. For me, that’s an accomplishment in itself. This last year has been a wild one to say the least! January 11th I began my final semester of my undergrad at Wilmington University. By January 17th I submitted my Masters application to Central Film School. Then came that interview invite and the February 1st interview. So much was talked about in my thirty minute slot. i just remember at the end being told “I just need to tell the team to send your offer” I got in. How the hell did me a kid from Delaware get into a film school in London, England? February 12th the official offer came through and so the rollercoaster began. Now you’re probably thinking, ‘dani your birthday is in April why are we chatting about January and February? It set up the rest of the 27th trip around the sun. That’s why. The night of my birthday, my dad and I had a few drinks together on the back patio and as we took the peanut butter shot (it was nasty yall) he said something that stuck with me “I’m really going to miss you, kid”. Those words stuck with me throughout this whole move and I’m writing this 48 hours before seeing him and my mom again after six months. (again you’re reading this as I’m celebrating 28 at my favourite spot with my parents)

May 2 I finished at Wilmington University after 7.5 years of undergrad. That’s huge! I celebrated that with a photo shoot a few weeks later. (Thanks Angelo!) May 23 I got my first job in my field. Camera at Lincoln University commencement. It was a great experience to have before embarking on the next chapter of my life. July saw me receiving the merit scholarship from Central Film School and finally getting tuition paid. August saw the Visa application be submitted and biometrics taken. August also was my farewell to the job I had since age 18. Music and Arts. Massive thank you to the Wilmington team for being by my side through this! I miss y’all. September 22nd my visa came back. By September 25 I was on the plane. My time in England has been the greatest time in a long time. I’ve met amazing people (shoutout to my CFS cohort), I’ve reunited with friends I haven’t seen in forever (Roo can’t believe we are at OT together!) the list goes on! I told myself id be in England by 35. I did it at 27. That’s mad! But rewarding.

27 has been a lot to handle but I wouldn’t change it for the world. Here’s to 28!

Thanks for reading! Until next time xx
